Elon Musk isn’t just making headlines for rockets and EVs anymore he’s now casually dropping bombshells like “I slept in the Lincoln Bedroom.” Yes, the Tesla CEO and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) says he’s spent multiple nights at the White House, all thanks to personal invitations from President Donald Trump.

“Sometimes I stay at the White House,” Musk told a small group of reporters during a Wednesday briefing. Asked where exactly he sleeps, his reply was straight out of presidential lore: “The Lincoln Bedroom.”

Musk described how these overnights happen. While traveling with Trump on Air Force One or Marine One, the president would sometimes offer a spontaneous invite. “He’s like, ‘Hey, do you want to stay over?’ And I’m like, ‘Sure,’” Musk explained. “I didn’t request it, to be sure.”

Apparently, this isn’t a one-time thing. Musk recalled that when Trump would ask where he planned to stay that night, he often had no concrete answer. That’s when Trump would step in and say, “Do you want to stay here?” Musk would accept, and even got a personal tour of the historic Lincoln Bedroom. “Oh, this is cool,” he remembered thinking.

It’s not just about the overnight stays there’s late-night ice cream involved too. Musk shared that Trump will actually call him at night and say, “Make sure you get some ice cream from the kitchen.” Musk took the advice seriously: “I ate a whole tub of ice cream… caramel, Häagen-Dazs,” he said, joking, “Don’t tell RFK.”

That last quip was aimed at Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who’s been leading efforts to improve America’s health. Musk laughed it off, adding, “He’s actually a very good host,” referring to Trump.

Since Trump’s reelection, Musk has been a frequent face at the White House — attending Cabinet meetings, riding Air Force One, and serving as a high-profile advisor. But his formal role as DOGE chief ends May 30. He told reporters he plans to scale back his time in Washington to just one or two days per week.

“I’m willing to contribute on average, one to two days a week, which probably means coming to D.C. every other week for three days,” he said. “As long as the president wants me to do it.”

As for how many nights he’s stayed under the White House roof? Musk wouldn’t give a specific number. “I don’t know if I should say that number,” he said, grinning. Then added, “More than once.”
