A terrifying start to the day in Hambanathi, KwaZulu-Natal, as a 26-year-old woman was violently attacked during an attempted robbery and what followed was swift street justice.

The incident unfolded just after 4 a.m. on Thursday, as the woman made her usual walk to work along Makawuse Road. Suddenly, a man she knew approached and demanded her belongings. When she refused to hand anything over, the situation quickly escalated. The attacker pulled out a knife and stabbed her multiple times in her left arm, chest, and breast.

Before he could get away, members of the community intervened. Fueled by outrage, the crowd caught up with the fleeing suspect and assaulted him on the spot.

Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to the emergency at approximately 04:17. Upon arrival, officers restrained the suspect while the injured woman was taken to a medical facility by private transport for urgent care.

The man, now in police custody, is being held at SAPS Tongaat as the investigation continues.
